Brisbane City Council has a strong commitment to the safety of all residents and workers of Brisbane, male and female.

To this end, the Personal Safety Project was put in place. This is a project offering gender specific FREE seminars and workshops in Personal Safety, Self Defence and Empowerment.

All sessions are designed and delivered by SDVMA, with the basic premise of equipping men and women with the skills needed to enhance their quality of life through fear reduction, manage aggressive or threatening behaviour, and reduce their risk of personal attack when in public spaces.

Sessions cover:

- Myths & facts relating to violence
- Confidence / self image
- Communication / body language
- Assertiveness / dealing with confrontation
- Fear management
- Environmental awareness
- Threat assessment
- Safety in the home
- Road rage
- Bag snatching
- Safety on public transport
- Self defence skills
- Options to physical self defence
- Legal issues
- Question & answer time (giving you the opportunity to raise any personal safety issues)

To find out about session times and locations in this ward, click here or phone 3403 8888.

Group sessions can be booked for your people, with sessions customised to suit the specific needs of your group, eg. youth, seniors, cultural groups – anybody with special wants or needs. Again, this training is FREE. Contact info@sdvma.com for details on group bookings.
