Floodcheck

in Media Releases

Interactive floodplain maps of Queensland are now available online. You can see areas where there has previously been inundation or there is a probable chance of inundation.

The maps also show Interim Flood Lines for towns and cities affected by flooding in 2010-11. The Interim Flood Line has been mapped using ultra-high resolution aerial photographs (where available), in combination with council and community feedback.

This is the state’s largest ever mapping exercise. The work goes beyond the larger urban centres where detailed mapping has already been done. Cities that have existing mapping to this high standard include; Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane and the Gold Coast and these are available on their respective council websites. Already 58 of the state’s 128 river catchments have been mapped. Combined with existing floodplain mapping, this represents coverage for about 90 per cent of Queensland’s population. BY mid 2012 there will be floodplain maps for all relevant areas of the state.
