International Volunteer Day 2011

Floodcheck

Interactive floodplain maps of Queensland are now available online. You can see areas where there has previously been inundation or there is a probable chance of inundation.

The maps also show Interim Flood Lines for towns and cities affected by flooding in 2010-11. The Interim Flood Line has been mapped using ultra-high resolution aerial photographs (where available), in combination with council and community feedback.

Show our Troops you care

“I encourage Ryan residents to show their support for our Australian troops this Christmas by sending them a care package free of charge through Australia Post,” Jane Prentice MP, Federal Member for Ryan, said today.

Australia Post allows free delivery for packages weighing no more than 2kg (cubed) to our soldiers on the front line.

“The aim of ‘Christmas for the Troops’ is to provide an Aussie Christmas for our deployed forces through the provision of care packages that contain donated items such as magazines, sweets or toiletries,” Mrs Prentice said.

Prentice announces successful Volunteer Grants in Ryan

Statement on the cost of living, economic performance and new taxes

I am seriously concerned about how the rising cost of living is impacting on residents and families in our community. Everywhere I go people tell me that things are really tough and getting tougher.

The Gillard Labor Government has turned a $20 billion surplus into a $50 billion deficit and turned $70 billion in net assets into $107 billion of net debt; this on top of Labor borrowing another $135 million every single day.  Now they are adding new taxes and further burdens to the economy.

In our own State, Labor, with Anna Bligh in charge, actually managed to lose Queensland's AAA credit rating. In July, the Commonwealth Bank's 'States of the States' report ranked Queensland's economic performance as the weakest in the country. To perform so badly, despite having a thriving mining industry, must be something of a record.

Brookfield Mobile Tower

“I implore Optus and Aurecon to consult more extensively with the community surrounding the proposed site at Brookfield, before taking further action on this project, and to come to a mutually agreed solution.”

 Speaking in Federal Parliament yesterday, Jane Prentice MP, Federal Member for Ryan, called on the company proposing to build a new phone tower in the Brookfield area, to involve the local residents.
