The innovation coming out of the University of Queensland never ceases to amaze me. UQ really is a world leader. I visited the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) to find out more about their Queensland Emory Drug Discovery Initiative (QEDDI) which aims to translate innovative academic research towards clinical development and commercialisation by investing in partnerships with industry.
Research such as that of Dr Kate Schroder is creating breakthroughs in cell biology and molecular medicine and paving the way for cures and treatments for diseases like Parkinsons. Dr Schroder’s research focuses on the innate immune system and is leading this field in understanding how immune cells launch health inflammation to fight infection and unhealthy inflammation to promote disease.
