Accessible materials for the vision impaired

Accessible print and digital materials will be free and easier to obtain for locals with disability in Ryan.

Hon Jane Prentice MP, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services and Federal Member for Ryan, said the Turnbull Government was investing $5.7 million to fund the delivery of the Print Disability Services Program over the next three years.

Mrs Prentice said Vision Australia and VisAbility would produce and convert materials into Braille, large print, tactical graphics and e-text, as well as audio files and DAISY readers for people in Ryan with print disability.

“All members of our community should have access to communication and information materials,” Mrs Prentice said.

“This is one way we can minimise barriers people who are blind or have low vision face so they have the best opportunity to participate in all aspects of life.

“I encourage all people with print disability to contact Vision Australia and VisAbility to take advantage of their services.

“The program will allow more people with print disability to live independently, participate in education, gain employment, and be active participants in our community.”
